Conservatives want to make UK first European country to achieve widespread superfast broadband
The Conservatives have said that if they are in Government they will ensure that most UK homes have superfast broadband speeds of 100Mbps by 2017. They want to create a regulatory framework that enables the rollout of superfast broadband to at least two-thirds of UK homes in that period. They would like commercial action by industry to lead the way, but will use some of the BBC licence fee funding for enhancing access to more remote areas. Their objective is to make the UK the first major European country to have widespread superfast broadband, so that the country becomes a hub for the creative industries.
