HMRC has issued a statement in which it said that it wanted to remind consumers that certain sales and import taxes and duties may apply when they buy goods or receive gifts that have come from abroad. It said that when people pass certain thresholds, certain charges need to be paid. It did not want consumers to be caught out into thinking that they had got a bargain when in fact additional taxes had to be factored in on top.
