An employee of BG Group has claimed constructive dismissal after resigning following a row over his uploading of his CV onto LinkedIn, the business social networking website. The human resources professional had ticked a box on the site stating that he was interested in other career opportunities. His employer also claimed that he had uploaded confidential information, and demanded his removal of his CV. The furore led to him resigning his position.
This case shows the need for organisations to have clear IT and Internet usage policies. Organisations should also make sure that those policies have been updated since the increased use of business and personal social networking sites.
