The European Commission (EC) recently announced its proposals for reform of the European Union data protection regime, and the UK government’s Ministry of Justice has announced a “call for evidence” on the proposals to find out what impact businesses, experts and other interested parties think the proposals will have. The proposals have experienced mixed reviews since their announcement. The aim of the call for evidence (which the Ministry of Justice has reiterated is not a formal consultation) is to collect evidence that will be used by the government in negotiating the final form of the law.

The call for evidence is open until 6 March, and the responses will be summarised in a report that will be published in June.
