Healthcare UK scheme announced to export NHS

Internationally renowned hospitals will have the opportunity to export their services, under a new Healthcare UK scheme announced by the Department of Health and UK Trade and Investment. Under the scheme, the hospitals could launch branches in other countries to make profits that are then ploughed back into the National Health Service. This could be a win-win situation with quality UK hospitals using their expertise for patient good and to meet demand in other countries, while making more money in the process to be used for healthcare at home. However, the Patients Association has warned against this as being a “distraction” when the NHS is already having to find £20bn of efficiency savings and deal with a shake-up of the entire NHS structure.
