The Watford Health Campus has moved a step closer with Watford Borough Council’s appointment of Kier as the preferred bidder to deliver the project. The Campus is an exciting investment that will involve the redevelopment of Watford Hospital and surrounding areas with employment, accommodation and open space around new rail links that have been separately approved. It has been a flagship in the Council’s plans for boosting business in the area, including targeting the pharmaceuticals and healthcare as a key sector. The development will involve 375,000 square feet, including 10% of that as office space.
Dorothy Thornhill MBE, Watford’s mayor, said: “This announcement marks a significant step forward for the Health Campus and brings us closer to seeing our aspirations for the area finally come to fruition. The Health Campus is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It will deliver significant benefits to the town and gives a huge boost to our local economy at a time when other areas of the country are seeing reductions to public investment and services.”
