Mark Tempest – Partner, Corporate Recovery

“I joined Matthew Arnold & Baldwin as a Trainee Solicitor in 1998 on a two year training contract. It was then that I discovered a passion for corporate and personal insolvency work. As there were no vacancies in that department when I qualified, I did a year in the Commercial Property team before joining Corporate Recovery and Insolvency in 2001. I was made Partner in 2007.

I think the firm has some special qualities, starting with the people. Amongst both professional and support staff there is a real sense of purpose and direction. The firm presents great opportunities, particularly for younger lawyers, in terms of the quality of work and quality and breadth of the client base, with real opportunities for professional development. There is also good scope for determining the nature and extent of that development oneself. There’s a real sense of opportunity. If you want to pursue your career at Matthew Arnold & Baldwin there are no glass ceilings, no barriers to success. If you have the talent and the enthusiasm you’ll be welcomed with open arms.

The firm has a collegiate atmosphere with very direct lines of communication between those in senior positions and the rest of the firm: there are no ‘ivory towers’. Matthew Arnold & Baldwin  fosters a sense of personal worth. People feel they have a place in the firm, that they are valued, that they can achieve and make a real difference. I think that is incredibly important and a big part of our success.”
